About Karamanites and our Temple
"Karamanai" is the abode of Lord Sathyavageeswara Swamy (Siva) with Goddess Avudayaambal (Parvathy) is a parivaara temple. Karamanai got its name as we know from "Kara" which means Bank of river "Vanamaala" which is also known as Karamana River and "Manai"which means House. Our Community has the blessings of Chilantivala Dharmasastha temple near Single Street, Krishna Swamy in the Krishnan Koil Street and also of Vinayagar in Dhikshan Bhagavathar Street. This place has got importance as the main centre of Brahmin Settlement in Thiruvananthapuram District other than Fort Areas.

Karamana Grama Samudayam is an association of Tamil Brahmins which has a tradition of more than 100 years with proper rules and guidelines from 1082M.E(Malayalam Year). Our ancestors have made Byelaw rules and guidelines for the Tamil Brahmin Community's upliftment and for the proper up keep of Temple and its ancestral properties in the Malayalam year 1082 itself. This Rules and guildlines has gone through years and has been changed as and when required.

Karamana Gramam is the Entrance for Thiruvananthapuram District and has the privilage of welcoming Goddess Saraswathi from Padmanabhapuram Palace with Lord Subramania Swamy from Velimalai for the Navarathri Celebrations. Lord Saathyavageeswara Swami temple as we know is more than 1000 years old. This temple was situated in the area before we Tamil Brahmins settled in here.

We Karamanaites have an ancestral background from Tamil land and mainly from Thirunelveli and nearby areas. Tamil Brahmins were brought by the erstwhile Travancore Royal Family for the purpose of "Sevuka Pravarthi" in the Padmanabha Swamy Temple and as recepients for "Brahmana Daanas". Previously our ancestral Agraharam was divided into two parts viz "Vasudeva Samudram" and Parvathipuram"Gramams. Our Ancestral Agraharam was divided in 18 Theruvu/Streets as we know of today.
